✨ NetGalley ARC: My thanks to all for my advanced copy of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily ✨ “If you did something terrible, would you tell” ✨ When Marissa finds out that her last family member has died, she also has to confront the secret she has been hiding from for all these years. Despite the fact she sometimes has blackouts, she can not accept the idea she could have had anything to do with her uncles death. But what does it mean for her when history repeats itself, right next door… ✨ What She Did is a compelling tale with a broken and damaged woman at the helm. It is an intense and suspenseful read, narrated over a duel timeline, providing insight into our leads horrific background and how that has defined her in the present. ✨ Carla Kovach does a great job of setting the scene, but for me I found this to be more of a character driven tale which I enjoyed. Marissa is so complex, her mental state fragile due to the trauma she was subjected to as a child, which really pulls on the heartstrings. ✨ At times this can be quite dark and confronting with its hard hitting themes, but they are handled as sensitively as can be without glossing over the serious nature of them. The pace is steady and the suspense is ramped up in the lead up to the finale. It’s engaging and immersive prose, had me transported into the pages, which had me experiencing it as its characters do. ✨My first book by Jessica Horne, this was such a great introduction to her work. The plot is strong and intriguing, its characters well developed and memorable for many different reasons and has been well thought out and put together. All up a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from the author. Added to the seemingly idyllic spot is the wonderfully welcoming neighbour Mrs Barley. But is this change a dream come true for Stina and Jack, or is it the beginning of a nightmare? ✨Whisper Cottage opens with a chilling prologue that sets up the tone for the rest of the book. It is a gripping tale that captured my attention right off the bat and although it does move at a slightly slower pace, I was still invested and wanted to see how it would all unfold. ✨Anne Wyn Clark does a great job of setting up a creepy and dark atmosphere throughout and as the tale progresses, so does the tension and suspense. I enjoyed its characters and undertones of the supernatural, as well as its twists and turns in the lead up to its finale. ✨ As a debut, I think Anne Wyn Clark has done a great job with this book. But was moving here the worst mistake of our lives?” ✨The Couple Upstairs is another belter of a read from Shalini Boland that is fast paced, suspenseful and will have you reading long into the night. It is stories like these that make me glad that I don’t socialise with my neighbours, only exchanging a quick hello if we happen to cross paths. ✨For Nina and Zac, buying their first home together should be a joyous occasion, but right from the get go things start to go wrong. As the story progresses more and more things start to happen which really starts to put a strain on the once happy and carefree couple. Someone is out to destroy them, but why? ✨The characters have been well crafted and developed. My heart went out to Nina and she is really put through the wringer. It also wouldn’t be a Shalini Boland book if there wasn’t a good twist thrown in and once again she has delivered. ✨The Couple Upstairs is another example of whatever Shalini Boland touches, turns to gold. Perfectly plotted and executed, if you are looking for a tense and gripping read then look no further. ✨ NetGalley ARC: My thanks to all for my advanced copy of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily ✨ “You never know what’s happening behind closed doors…” ✨ I am huge fan of Chris Merritt’s crime thrillers so when I heard he was going to be penning a book in my favourite psychological thriller genre, I couldn’t wait to read it. So how do I think he did after I finished reading The New Home? Read on to find out! ✨ Freya is excited to have so quickly made a wonderful new friend in Emily, after moving next door to her. Freya is then left reeling when Emily and her daughter Thea suddenly disappear. Does this beautiful leafy quite street hide a shocking secret that will shake not only Freya but the reader to their very core! ✨ As always Chris Merritt delivers a clever, well thought out and executed plot, which expertly draws the reader into the story and holds you hostage. I couldn’t flick the pages on my Kindle fast enough, desperate to know what happened to Emily and Thea that I could not stop reading until I found out, which when I did, left me as shook as Freya! ✨So to loop back to the beginning of my review, how do I think Chris Merritt did with his first foray into the psychological thriller genre? I think he nailed it! I absolutely loved this book. A strong plot, an unreliable narrator which are my favourite kind and a outcome I didn’t see coming, this book is the whole package.
