Today I am taking part in the books on tour and reviewing The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater, published by Bookouture.

The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her buttery blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms.

As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts.

She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I know this will be hard to hear. But I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.’

My world implodes. And then she tells me that she owns our home – and that she’s not going anywhere…

An utterly gripping psychological thriller from the number one bestselling author of The Marriage. If you like Gone GirlThe Girl on the Train and Lisa Jewell then you will be hooked by The Girlfriend.

“My husband’s dead… She’s at my door….She owns my home…”

The intriguing plot of this book immediately drew me in and had me rubbing my hands with glee as to how scandalous it was going to be. A husband living a double life, the wife completely unaware, always makes for a fascinating read for so many reasons.

Set in Nottinghamshire, this tale takes you on one wild roller coaster ride that is so full of secrets, lies and deceit. There was never a dull moment and as is always the case when reading a book from Slater, I was kept up well past my bedtime! I just couldn’t stop flicking those pages, which I did so furiously!

The characters evoke many different emotions and resonate, the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and each secret revealed was just as shocking as the last! Sensational from beginning to end, Slater has definitely outdone herself! The Girlfriend is a must read that I can’t recommend highly enough!

Thank you to K.L. Slater, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of The Girlfriend, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play and Barnes & Noble and Bookbub if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK, but will post to Waterstones & Foyles if also available.
