Today I am reviewing The Wife by John Nicholl, published by Boldwood Books.
Twenty-nine-year-old Cynthia Galbraith is serving a life sentence for murder, and struggling with the traumatic past that put her behind bars.
When the prison counsellor suggests Cynthia write a personal journal exploring the events that drove her to murder, she figures she has all the time in the world and very little, if anything, to lose. So she begins to write, revealing the secrets that haunt her and the truths she’s never dared tell.
A note from the author: While fictional, this book was inspired by true events. It draws on the author’s experiences as a police officer and child protection social worker. The story contains content that some readers may find upsetting. It is dedicated to survivors everywhere.

“What drives a woman to kill?…”
The second book in The Galbraith series, The Wife is told from the perspective of the pure evil Doctor Galbraith’s long suffering and extremely broken wife Cynthia as she serves a life sentence for murder.
Still reeling from the events in book one (The Doctor), this latest instalment again held me in its clutches. Cynthia’s point of view, told through journal entries, details of when she met and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Galbraith, which adds another layer to this tragic tale. It really pulled on my heartstrings and left me with overwhelming sadness.
Well written and executed, Nicholl has crafted another powerful compelling read. I can’t lie though it is a tough one as it delves into domestic violence and pedophilia which may be too distressing for some readers.
Thank you to John Nicholl, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of The Wife, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google read Play Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, Foyles and BookBub if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK.
