Today I am taking part in the books on tour and reviewing The Villa by Clare Boyd. This was released on the 17th of March, published by Bookouture.

One perfect family. Two weeks in the sun. A secret that will tear them apart.

Nora just wanted some time with her daughters, away from everything, in the stunning stone villa under the heat of the French sun. Lazy days by the pool, freckles appearing on tanned cheeks, laughter over cocktails on the terrace. She’s so proud of her girls. They might have their differences, but they’ve grown into confident, independent young women, with their own way of seeing things.

But when Nora gathers everyone around the table on that first night, she realises it’s time to tell them. And as she tops up her wine, her hand shakes. She knows nothing could have prepared them for what she’s about to say. But what she doesn’t know, is that hers is not the only secret…

“Two weeks. One family. A secret that will tear them apart…”

The Villa is a family domestic drama that is set in the south of France. It is a tale of motherhood and secrets held tight to protect the ones you love, but at what cost.

Clare Boyd has delivered another gripping and compelling read that I throughly enjoyed. I love a good family drama and The Villa fits the bill perfectly. Emotional and a tear jerker, make sure you have the tissues handy for this one!

The tale is very intriguing and I couldn’t wait to uncover its secrets and lies. Points of view are divided between the mother and her two daughters, which gives the reader an in-depth look into these complex flawed characters and their family dynamics.

I really enjoyed this different style of storytelling from Boyd which is a departure from her normal psychological thrillers. It is a very poignant story and one I recommend you checking out.

Thank you to Clare Boyd, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of The Villa, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play and Barnes & Noble if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK, but will post to Waterstones & Foyles if also available.

Follow the tour along the way for these bloggers thoughts on The Villa. My thanks to Bookouture for my spot on this books on tour and for the promotional materials.

Clare lives with her husband and their two daughters in Surrey, where her little green shed at the bottom of the garden provides a haven for her writing life.

Before becoming a writer, she enjoyed a career in television, as a researcher in documentaries and then as a script editor in drama at the BBC and Channel Four, where her love of storytelling took hold.
