Today I am reviewing on its publication day The Weekend Escape by Rakie Bennett, published by One More Chapter.
A deserted island, a vicious storm, a murderer amongst friends…
It was meant to be a fun reunion, a chance for six friends to reconnect and relive the adventures that brought them together in the first place. But from the moment they arrive on their island home for the weekend, Lyndsey, Sonia, Bobbie, Amanda, Juliet, and Val realise that their paradise is filled with peril, and there are consequences when you try to outrun the ghosts of your past.
As everything starts to fall apart, and the friends begin to turn against one another, deep, dark secrets are revealed, and an unimaginable horror is unleashed. They came seeking adventure, but now they’ll be lucky to leave with their lives…
“They came for adventure…They found something else…”
The Weekend Escape is a solid read but unfortunately this one was not for me. I was hoping for this to really standout above others I have read in a similar vain, but it didn’t quite get there. The story was promising and had all the ingredients of being a great thriller, but I just could not connect with it and its characters. I found it to be too predictable and in my view has too many characters to really get a good amount of insight into their personalities, which made them feel under developed.
Now its not all doom and gloom with this review and I do want to add that I did enjoy the authors style and based on that I would read more from her, hoping that this one is just a one off. This book has also received some very favourable reviews, so if this appeals to you, still give it a go as it could be your next great read!
Thank you to Rakie Bennett, One More Chapter and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Weekend Escape, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play and Barnes & Noble if available.
