Today I am reviewing My Dark Self by Jessica Huntley. This was released on the 1st of July, published by Amazon KDP.
My name is Josslyn and I’m a psychopath. Actually, that’s not technically true … let me explain.
My name is Alicia and I am a psychopath.
There are two people in my body, but Alicia is dangerous and I can’t control her anymore … but who (or what) is she? Also, why do I feel like I’m being watched … and why don’t cats like me?
This book is INSANE and I loved every second of it! Oh my goodness I don’t really know where to start with this review. Well, the cover sucked me in straight away and I just had to read this.. Apologies go to the author whose book I was in the middle of reading when I bought My Dark Self as I had to set it aside so I could immediately start it!
We all have that little voice in our head that says things like go on have another glass or wine, or go on have another piece of chocolate. But what must it be like to have what appears to be a fully formed yet evil personality residing in your mind. Is it Josslyn or is it Alicia? Is she good or is she evil? Or are they simply two sides of the same coin?
Creepy, sinister and downright terrifying, this is a story that will get under your skin and will continue to play around in your mind long after reading it! Yes, there are some moments that will make you go hmmm really, but my advice is just go with it. It is these moments that give depth to the story and make it all the more horrifying and entertaining. I also liked how Huntley injected some comic relief throughout which offsets the more dark and gruesome parts of the story.
My Dark Self is such a unique story and the ending just blew my mind! It could have just stopped there and that would have been fine but, I’m excited to know that this is the beginning of a trilogy and I can’t wait for book two. Please don’t keep us waiting too long! Now I do hope that Jessica Huntley will be happy with this review as honestly I have to say i’m a little bit scared of her after reading this book!! (kidding….)
This review will be added to, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Amazon Australia & Amazon US. I will also add to NetGalley, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play and Barnes & Noble if available. As I am from Australia, I am unable to add to Amazon UK, but will post to Waterstones & Foyles if also available.
